In all seasons resort city Jūrmala offers
wide range of leisure activities. It is a
perfect place not only for swimming, playing
volleyball, football, handball or frisbee at
the beach, but also for exercising, Nordic
walking, kite surfing and windsurfing, water
cycling and water motorcycling. Children can
play in special beach playgrounds, but those
who like cycling may enjoy Jūrmala by
cycling along the beach or on special
bikeways, where you can see the marvelous
wooden architecture. Also during the ride
you will breathe fresh and healing air that
is made up by the forests and parks in the
city of Jūrmala.
The forest park Dzintari is a paradise of
activities for every child, where are
playgrounds for different ages, skateboard
and basketball fields and also specially
made trails for those who like to ride with
roller-skates.
Enjoy
water activities all year long in a water
amusement park Līvu akvaparks, where you
can swim in different swimming pools and
slide down through the different speed water
tubes. Also in summer there is a special
summer area in the aqua park. Aqua park
Nemo also offers sliding down the water
tubes, but only in summer. In Jūrmala there
are different swimming pools available with
different kinds of water - ordinary, warm
sea or medicinal mineral water. Jūrmala is
proud of their indoor and outdoor tennis
courts that cover 40% of all tennis courts
in Latvia.
City
also offers a variety of different kinds of
relaxation and entertainment activities,
especially for golf and bowling players.
Golfers can improve their playing skills or
even take a part in one of the golf
championships in Saliena Golf that is one
of the biggest golf courts in Eastern Europe.
Saliena Golf offers a training course and
a children school, and is located only 5 km
from Jūrmala. The river Lielupe offers rides
with yachts, boats, on water-ski or
wakeboard.
Jūrmala is also known for its wide
possibilities for active leisure in the
nature. The Ķemeri National park is an exact
paradise for birdwatchers. In Jūrmala
Open-air museum you can try out the
technique and methods of stranding a rope
and some other handicraft activities.
Not only in summer, but also in winter it is
possible and advisable to do Nordic walking
along the beach - it will not only keep you
fit, but also freshen you up after long week
of hard work. During winter everyone is
welcome to enjoy skating at Majori
skating-rink.
